On 31 July 2024 it became known that the first batch of F-16 fighters had arrived in Ukraine.
The delivery, while welcome and useful, comes rather late after the lack of proper aviation on the Ukrainian side strongly contributed to the failure of the Ukrainian offensive of 2023, as well as to the subsequent Russian advances on the frontline taking place since November 2023. In addition, the number of F-16 fighters delivered to Ukraine is evidently quite limited as of the time of writing, and will remain so at least during the remaining months of 2024.
The program to gradually build up an F-16 force in Ukraine involves fighters coming from European NATO member states such as Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Belgium, without direct deliveries from the US.
