The US is trying to convince Venezuela‘s authoritarian ruler Nicolás Maduro “to give up power in exchange for amnesty,” WSJ reported on 11 August 2024. This follows the recent election won by the opposition and rigged by the Maduro regime.
American inducements reportedly include “pardons for Maduro and top lieutenants of his who face Justice Department indictments.”
This is another development in the American attempts to softly push Venezuela toward democratization, conducted since 2022 (see a number of linked sources about these efforts on the Modern Great Game Map).
