MENA Theater Update, 26 August 2024

A relatively large exchange of fire occurred between Israel and Hezbollah in the early hours of 25 August 2024 as a part of the limited war they have been waging since October 2023.

As Hezbollah deployed its rocket launchers in preparation for a larger-than-usual strike against Israel, the latter’s air force pre-empted the attack by hitting the deployed Hezbollah launchers, destroying many. Those that survived launched rockets shorty after the Israeli airstrike, with rather limited effect.

While the largest since the start of Israel-Hezbollah hostilities in October 2023, the exchange has not significantly changed the state of affairs existing in the Israel-Lebanon border area, with limited warfare between Israel and Hezbollah continuing after it as it had been waged before.

This state of affairs can change, developing into a full-scale war, if a political decision to this effect is made by the leadership of Iran, Israel, or both.
