Caribbean Theater Update, 29 August 2024

Stratfor/RANE’s analysis indicates that the government reshuffle by the Maduro regime conducted on 28 August 2024 means the regime intends to consolidate its authoritarianism within Venezuela and strengthen its ties with America‘s geopolitical adversaries.

The new government appointments show the regime’s intent to strengthen the repression against the Venezuelan political opposition, prepare to circumvent US oil sanctions, and strengthen ties with China and Iran.

The Maduro regime is thus firmly on the road to keeping power after the recent presidential election it has blatantly rigged, and to remaining on the side of America’s foes in the ongoing global geopolitical struggle.

These latest developments appear to indicate the failure of the American approach to Venezuela during the last three years, when Washington has been trying to use diplomatic and economic means to induce the Maduro regime to move towards democratization of Venezuela and away from the Chinese-Russian-Iranian side hostile to America.
