Multi-Theater Update, 12 Sep. 2024

On 11 September 2024, the US Department of State pointed at the increased military cooperation between China and Russia, saying that in exchange for the Chinese support of Russia in its war against Ukraine, Moscow was “helping Beijing develop submarine, aeronautic and missile technologies,” including knowhow “in areas such as stealth and surveillance.”

Washington says Russia’s sharing of such military technologies with China can have a “negative and concerning impact” on the security of the US and its allies, with a “very significant impact on Chinese capabilities and deployments in the western Pacific.”

The Russian-Chinese military cooperation, says the US, is “orchestrated at the highest levels” and represents “not a tactical alliance,” but rather “a fundamental alignment.”
