Israeli airstrikes against the Assad regime and Iranian targets in Syria conducted during the night of 8-9 September 2024 turned out to have been accompanied by a ground operation of the Israeli special forces.
Israelis raided an underground precision missile factory constructed by Iran and located in the Masyaf area in Syria. The facility had been built deep inside a mountain in order to render it invulnerable to airstrikes. The factory was set to provide consistent supply of precision missiles to Hezbollah for the use against Israel. Given that the site was protected from airstrikes, Israel employed ground forces instead.
An Israeli special forces team landed from helicopters, entered the facility eliminating the Assad regime guards, found and took over sensitive materials, then placed explosives and blew up the factory from inside.
