On 20 September 2024, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a loan of up to 35 billion euros to Ukraine. The money is set to be used by Ukraine “on energy, on defence, as well as on bomb shelters for children in schools, nurseries and universities,” as well as on “weapons, primarily those produced domestically, drones, missiles” – all critical items in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War.
