On 1 October, Iran conducted its second missile strike against Israel directly from Iranian territory, after the first one on 13-14 April 2024.
About 180-200 missiles were fired, most of them ballistic.
The Iranian strike was again ineffectual, failing to hit any significant Israeli targets with missiles either being intercepted or falling in empty areas.
The United States and Britain supported Israeli defenses in shooting down the Iranians missiles, with US employing two warships (destroyers), and UK – fighter jets.

Israel‘s ground forces and Hezbollah began to engage in close contact clashes on the Lebanese territory near the Israel-Lebanon border. At the same time, this land fighting was limited in scale, and so was generally the Israeli ground operation within Lebanon as of 2 October.
Both this ground operation and continued Israeli airstrikes kept damaging Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. The rocket fire by Hezbollah remained largely ineffectual.
Meanwhile, Israeli and American officials claimed that “Israel’s recent airstrikes in Lebanon destroyed about half of the missiles and rockets that Hezbollah had accumulated over more than three decades.” Nevertheless, the remaining rocket arsenal of Hezbollah remained “formidable.”
