Israel‘s military forces cut in two the northern part of Gaza Strip that remains beyond Israel’s firm control and contains surviving Hamas military forces.
Specifically, Israeli troops advanced in the space between Gaza city and a smaller area containing towns Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahiya and Jabalia Camp, cutting off one from another.
During the recent months Israeli offensive ground operations against Hamas had a character of temporary raids without attempts to gain and hold new territory. These raids were followed by Israeli withdrawals with Hamas fighters returning to the areas in question. If the Israeli operation to cut the northern remaining Hamas enclave in two turns out to be aiming at eliminating Hamas presence and establishing firm control in at least one of these areas, this will be the first such Israeli effort during the recent period.

A new exchange of fire occurred in eastern Syria between the US forces and Iran‘s unofficial military forces. Iranian forces conducted a missile attack against the US base at Conoco Oil Field on 14 October 2024. That same day, US aircraft hit Iranian forces’ positions at a number of locations in eastern Syria. On 15 October, reports emerged that a drone attacked a US base in the far northeastern corner of Syria.
