Russia continued to develop its military presence in Equatorial Guinea after starting to deploy its troops in the country in August 2024.

By 12 November, reports on the matter were saying Russia had up to 200 troops in Equatorial Guinea’s two main cities, Malabo and Bata, “to protect the presidency.” Reportedly, the Russians were training local elite guards.
