Under China‘s pressure, one of the rebel groups fighting against the military junta in Myanmar, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army’s (TNLA), announced on 26 November 2024 that it was ready to hold peace talks with the country’s military rulers.
The TNLA is operating in the China-Myanmar border area, where the pro-democracy side of Myanmar’s civil war has achieved successes in the recent months. The group expressed “appreciation for China’s mediation effort.”
The developments comes as a success of China’s efforts to undermine the pro-democracy National Unity Government of Myanmar in its war against the junta.
