MENA Theater Update, 30 Nov. 2024

Events in Syria kept developing with a stunning speed on 29-30 November 2024.

Besides advancing in the north of the country, the rebels attacked southward into Syria’s central part, taking city Maarat al-Numan, and advancing towards, then entering, the city of Hama. As a sub-branch of this line of advance, the rebels attacked west of Khan Shaykhun, taking several towns and villages in that direction.

The rebels also advanced in the area east of Saraqib, taking over vast territory including town Abu al-Duhur.

In Aleppo, the rebels took most of the city, while the Syrian Kurds took some of its northern districts.

In addition to the ongoing advance from the Idlib region, the rebels launched an offensive from the area of Al-Bab in the southern direction, which also resulted in their rapid advance.

Amid the crumbling territorial control of the Assad regime, the Syrian Kurds launched efforts to take over some of its former territory before the rebels reached it, doing so in some of the areas east of Aleppo, in addition to the northern districts of this city.

By the evening of 30 November it was clear that the Assad regime was facing not just territorial losses in the north, but in fact its greatest existential crisis since the early stages of the Syrian Civil War.
