MENA Theater Update, 2 Dec. 2024

The rapid takeover of territory by the Syrian rebels continued on 1-2 December 2024.

They consolidated their control in and around the city of Aleppo, and took over large areas east and southeast of it, including city Dayr Hafir and town Khanasir. The rebel-controlled areas in Idlib region and the area of Al-Bab connected, eliminating all Assad-controlled territory between them. The Syrian Kurds evacuated areas east of Aleppo, and withdrew from their long-held area of Tall Rifat, surrendering it to the rebels. They moved to the Kurdish-held northeast Syria through a corridor apparently agreed between the rebels and the Kurds.

The rebels were not able to take the city of Hama immediately. The Assad forces counterattacked, forcing the rebel vanguard to withdraw from the city. After that, the rebels began to consolidate their territorial control north of Hama, taking towns and villages in that area.

The Russian air force continued to conduct intense airstrikes against the rebels and the rebel-held cities and town in an effort to help the Assad regime.
