As of 3 December 2024, the coalition centered on the Syrian Kurds in northeastern Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), launched attacks against the Assad regime and Iran‘s unofficial military forces in Syria to take over the Assad-controlled territory east of the Euphrates River opposite Deir Ez Zor.
The territory in question comprises seven villages.
The SDF’s move takes place at a time when the Assad regime and its foreign allies are distracted by the rebel offensive that poses critical threat to the regime.
The US air force conducted strikes against the Assad regime and Iran’s unofficial military forces in the area targeted by the SDF attack, apparently in support of the SDF operation.
