MENA Theater Update, 10 Dec. 2024

On 8 December, the Syrian rebel groups affiliated with Turkey launched an attack towards the city of Manbij, controlled by the Syrian Kurds and the SDF coalition led by them.

That same day, the Assad regime fell, and was replaced by a new transitional government of Syria, with the former rebel military factions now being affiliated with it.

On 9 December, the former rebels took Manbij. After that, the former rebels attempted to continue their advance across the Euphrates towards the area south of Kobani.

At the same time, Turkey launched airstrikes against the Syrian Kurds’ targets in the area of Kobani in support of the former rebels’ offensive.
