On 10 December, forces of the former Syrian rebels, now affiliated with the transitional government of Syria, took Deir Ez Zor and Al Bukamal on the western bank of Euphrates from the Syrian Kurds, who had taken it after the retreat of the Assad forces and Iran’s unofficial military forces on 6 December.
The former rebels’ attempts to advance on the Kurdish-controlled territory with the Turkish air support continued in north Syria.
