In November 2024, the recently elected president of France‘s long-term ally Senegal decided for his country to cease being France’s Geopolitical Facilitator, announcing withdrawal of the French military base from Senegal, as well as indicating the country’s course in international affairs was to be free of firm geopolitical alignments.
The situation in Cote d’Ivoire, which had also announced withdrawal of the French military base, appeared different with the country maintaining close geopolitical alignment with France.
