According to a new Japan–Indonesia security deal announced on 13 January 2025, Japan is going to “furnish Indonesia with high-speed patrol boats and collaborate on joint naval defense projects to enhance Indonesia’s maritime security.” The latter is likely to include “joint development of a modern frigate for the Indonesian navy.”
