The United States continues its activities in the Lebanese political establishment aimed at preventing future influence of Iran’s military and political asset Hezbollah on the governance of Lebanon.
The US is telling the Lebanese politicians that it “will not tolerate the unchecked influence of Hezbollah and its allies over the formation of a new government” of Lebanon. One US official pointed out that “there was a war and Hezbollah was defeated and they need to remain defeated,” adding that “the new government needs to match that new reality.”
