China is reportedly working to strengthen its influence in Afghanistan “trying to build a regional consensus, with backing from BRICS countries” to support stabilization of the Taliban regime in the country.
The overthrow of the republic in Afghanistan by the Taliban, with the help of China’s ally Pakistan, opened opportunities for China to bring the country under its influence. While Pakistan’s own relations with the Taliban are currently difficult, China nevertheless seeks to entrench its geopolitical influence in Afghanistan.
