In the morning of 18 March 2025, Israel re-launched its military operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, launching multiple air and artillery strikes against the Hamas targets. The war had been paused since the 19 January 2025 cesefire.
While the refusal by Hamas to expedite release of remaining hostage became an immediate reason for Israel’s renewal of the military operation at this particular time, the operation is part of Israel’s efforts to eliminate Hamas’s territorial control in the Gaza Strip.
