On 1 April 2025, Germany established a tank brigade in Lithuania. The 45th Tank Brigade is based in Rūdninkai near Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Its base is still under construction, and the brigade is set to reach battle readiness with five thousand troops by the end of 2027.
The move is a part of NATO’s preparations for repelling a potential attack by Russia on the Alliance’s member states in the years ahead.
