The United States’ airstrike campaign against the Houthis in Yemen, re-launched on 15 March 2025, took a new turn during 19-21 April. Previously, US airstrikes had usually targeted Houthi infrastructure, leadership, and major weaponry. Over the period of 19-21 April, US strikes began to hit Houthi positions on the frontlines of their war with the Yemeni government, frozen since the ceasefire in March 2022.
This new development occurred amid rumors about the Yemeni government forces’ plan to launch a ground offensive against the Houthis, raising the possibility of the US operating in support of he planned offensive which would aim to reduce share of the Yemeni territory under the Houthi control.
The frontline airstrikes by the US during 19-21 April were reported south of Hodeidah – Yemen’s major port under the Houthi control, and on the Marib frontline in the east, which was the area of the last major battle of the Yemen war before the March 2022 ceasefire.
