The Africa Intelligence reported on 21 April 2025 that Turkey had been delivering arms to the government of Somalia in an effort to help it stop the advance of the jihadist organization Al-Shabaab’s forces.
Somalian government is Turkey’s ally, and hosts a Turkish military base. Ankara’s activities in its support are caused by a desire to retain the geopolitical position on the Somalian government-controlled territory by averting its fall into Al-Shabaab’s hands.
