On 5-6 May 2025, the Israeli air force hit a number of infrastructure targets in the Houthi-controlled territory, including the Sanaa international airport, Hodeidah port, several power stations, and others.
The Israeli strikes were conducted after one of the ballistic missiles recently fired at Israel by the Houthis almost caused damage to the Ben-Hurion airport.

On 6 May 2025, the United States announced it had reached a ceasefire with the Houthis.
A statement issued same day by the foreign ministry of Oman, which mediated the agreement between the US and the Houthis, said: “In the future, neither side will target the other, including US ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.”
What would be the fate of non-US ships seeking to pass through the Red Sea and Suez Canal, was not explained in the 6 May statements.
