On 20 May 2025, the leader of Iran’s ruling regime Ali Khamenei called the demands of the United States in the ongoing nuclear negotiations between the two powers “excessive and outrageous,” adding: “I don’t think nuclear talks with the U.S. will bring results.”
While the US seeks the end of the domestic uranium enrichment by Iran in order to eliminate the possibility of Iran creating nuclear weapons, the Iranian regime is refusing to accept this condition in order to retain the nuclear weapons option in the future.
The US has been trying to make Iran abandon its nuclear weapons program through diplomatic pressure since March 2025. The negotiations started on 12 April 2025.
