The Houthis resumed their attacks on the commercial shipping in the Red Sea, attacking and sinking two Greek-owned merchant vessels. The first ship was sunk on 6 July. The second was attacked on 7 July, and sank on 8 July.
Notably, no American or other naval ship was available to come to the rescue of the attacked vessels. On 6 May 2025, the US had agreed a ceasefire with the Houthis. The deal protects the American shipping, but apparently does nothing to protect the non-US ships. According to “a senior US official,” “a s long as the Houthis aren’t shooting at American ships, the US considers the cease-fire still in place.”
