The United States is reportedly increasing the pressure on the government of Lebanon “to swiftly issue a formal cabinet decision committing to disarm Hezbollah before talks can resume on a halt to Israel’s military operations in Lebanon.”
Iran‘s military and political asset, Hezbollah, was seriously weakened as a result of its military defeat by Israel in 2024. Nevertheless, Iran seeks to retain this asset, expecting to increase its strength again in the future, and then use it in its new clashes with Israel and other adversaries of the Iranian regime.
Israel’s continued airstrikes on the Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, and the American activities conducted through the Lebanese political system, aim to prevent this from happening.
