On 12 August 2025, China signed a development deal with Nauru, pledging $651 million of investments. The agreement aims to “develop renewable energy, the phosphate industry, marine fisheries and sea infrastructure, water resource and environmental system, modern agriculture systems, eco-tourism, green transport systems, health, and cultural exchange platforms.”

On 13 August 2025, Australia opened a new naval base it had build for Papua New Guinea’s military and security forces.

The Lombrum Naval Base is located on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea.

On 13 August 2025, Australia agreed a $326.50 million deal with Vanuatu, the Nakamal Agreement, envisioning Australis’s investment in Vanuatu “over the next decade.”

The investment in question reportedly includes an Australian commitment “to build two large data centres in the capital, Port Vila, and Vanuatu’s largest island, Santo.”
