On 8 September 2025, Israel conducted airstrikes against targets in central Syria, including in the areas of Homs, Latakia and Palmyra.
According to Israeli sources, the strikes in the Homs area “targeted a missile warehouse and air defense equipment manufactured in Turkey, which had recently been transferred to the area.”
Since the fall of the Assad regime in December 2025, Israel has been seeking to contain Turkey’s military entrenchment in Syria.

The Middle East Eye reported on 9 September 2025 that Turkey had begun “training Syrian forces under a security agreement signed between the two countries in August.”
Reportedly, Ankara had plans “to train about 5,000 Syrian soldiers and police in the short term, with the number expected to rise to at least 20,000 over the medium to long term.”
