Washington Post reported on 14 October 2025 that “China has materially helped Russia gain a key battlefield advantage” in the Russo-Ukrainian War by “dramatically increasing exports over the summer of key components needed to make the fiber-optic drones that have enabled Moscow to overwhelm Ukrainian defenses on the front lines.”

The Chinese supplies “are enabling Russian manufacturers to build fiber-optic drones” that are “increasingly used by Moscow because they are less susceptible to interception.” The supplies have been “instrumental in helping Russian drone manufacturers scale up production and are now helping to develop components with explicit battlefield applications.”

Financial Times reported on 12 October 2025 that “the US has been helping Ukraine mount long-range strikes on Russian energy facilities for months in a joint effort to weaken the economy and force President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table.”

With the help of the American intelligence to “shape route planning, altitude, timing and mission decisions,” Ukraine has been striking “important Russian energy assets, including oil refineries, far beyond the front line.” The US is reportedly “closely involved in all stages of planning.”
