China has been trying to impede the US efforts aimed at “revitalizing American shipbuilding and manufacturing,” sanctioning US affiliates of the South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean on 14 October 2025, in attempt to undermine the American-South Korean shipbuilding cooperation.
Previously, South Korea had “pledged to inject as much as $150 billion to help the US revive its troubled shipbuilding industry.”
Resurrection of the American shipbuilding industry is a crucial issue ahead of a future war between the United States and China which is going to be a predominantly naval conflict.
