Israel’s diplomatic recognition and material aid for Somaliland has gained it an ally with a crucial geopolitical location – on the southern shore of the Gulf of Aden near the southern end of the Red Sea, and opposite the Houthis in Yemen who are aligned with Iran and have already taken part in a war against Israel.
