On 2 January 2026, the government of Yemen launched an attack against the UAE-aligned Southern Transitional Council, aiming to retake the territory which the STC had captured from the government in December 2025.
The Yemeni government’s operation was supported by Saudi Arabia’s airstrikes against the STC forces.
