Following the launch of the Yemeni government’s offensive against the UAE-aligned separatist Southern Transitional Council on 2 January 2026, on 3 and 4 January the government forces recaptured much of the areas in the Hadhramaut and Al Mahrah provinces that had been taken over by STC in December 2025.
The government forces’ offensive was supported by airstrikes conducted by Saudi Arabia.
