On 5 January 2026, the United States President Trump reiterated that “he is prepared to send more troops into Venezuela if interim President Delcy Rodriguez stops cooperating with the U.S.” On 4 January, Trump had said: “If they don’t behave, we will do a second strike.”
Among the American demands to the regime remaining in Venezuela following the capture of Maduro is for it to “kick out operatives of countries or networks hostile to the U.S., and stop selling oil to U.S. adversaries,” and to “eventually oversee a free election and step aside.”
