The offensive of the Yemen government against the UAE-backed separatist Southern Transitional Council in southern Yemen continued successfully during 5-8 January 2026.
The government-aligned forced completely took over Hadhramaut and Al Mahrah provinces, and then proceeded to advance into the core STC-controlled areas in southwestern Yemen including the main southern city, Aden.
Saudi Arabia’s air force continued to support the Yemeni government’s advance with airstrikes against the STC targets.
