On 14 January 2026, Madagascar’s ruling regime announced the arrival of Russian military personnel into the country. The pretext for the arrival of Russian military specialists is “to train units of the Malagasy Armed Forces in the use of new military equipment supplied by Russia.”
Russia had delivered “43 crates of weapons” to Madagascar’s military regime in December 2025.
