On 21 January 2026, WSJ published a material describing China’s efforts to infiltrate and subvert Taiwan’s military forces in preparation for its attempt to conquer the island.
Taiwan officials reportedly “fear that agents already in place on the island would aid a military attack by China.” Many of the suspects in Taiwan charged with crimes related to espionage and subversion “since the start of 2024 were actively serving in the military or were army veterans.”
Among the tasks given by the Chinese handlers to their spy, a retired Taiwanese general, was “to establish an armed organization in Taiwan that would target military bases.”
