On 29 January 2026, the US President Trump issued an executive order declaring Cuba an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the American national security, and said he would “impose tariffs on all US imports from any country that supplies the island nation with oil.”
Trump stated that Cuba provides “defense, intelligence and security assistance to adversaries in the Western Hemisphere” including Russia, China and Iran.
Meanwhile, Mexico suspended oil shipments to Cuba due to the American pressure.
