On 21 February 2026, Reuters reported that “Cuban security advisers and doctors have been leaving Venezuela,” with the country’s interim head Delcy Rodriguez replacing Cuban presidential guards with Venezuelan ones.

This development indicates progress being reached by the United States in its pressure applied on Venezuela to abandon its geopolitical alignment with America’s adversaries, although the process is not yet complete and will require continued US efforts in the months ahead.

On 20 February 2026, the NYT published an analysis of the current US blockade of Cuba, saying the latter is “running out of fuel fast.”

Reportedly, “in recent days, vessels roaming the Caribbean Sea in search of fuel for Cuba have come up empty or been intercepted by the U.S. authorities.” One tanker that did find the fuel and tried to take it back to Cuba, was intercepted by the US Coast Guard within 70 miles of the island.
