New Issue of the Russian Military Transformation Tracker, 19 Mar 2026

The Russian Military Transformation Tracker has been reporting structural changes in the Russian military since August 2018.

Issue 11 of the Tracker covers changes in the Russian military structure in the period of December 2024-June 2025.

The Western Frontier (Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and the Russian border area with the first two countries)

Existence of the 352nd Mechanized Regiment75th Mechanized Regiment and 20th Mechanized Regiment was noted in March 2025 (352nd and 75th) and December 2024 (20th). While they were taking part in the Russo-Ukrainian War, it was unclear at the time of writing to which larger units these regiments belonged.

On 30 April 2025, Russian media reported that UAV units had been created within the Dnieper Flotilla (in the occupied part of Ukraine).

Project 22800 Karakurt class corvette Tucha joined the Russian navy’s Black Sea Fleet on 21 December 2024. Due to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War, the new corvette was located at the Russian naval base in Kaspiysk (Dagestan) on the Caspian Sea.

The North-Western Frontier (the Baltic region and Karelia)

A mechanized regiment with a previously unknown title, belonging to the 68th Mechanized Division (HQ in Luga, Leningrad Oblast, established on the basis of the former 25th Mechanized Brigade by early 2024) of the 6th Army, was identified in April 2025 as the 122nd Mechanized Regiment.

As reported in April 2025, the division also included the 121st Mechanized Regiment and 52nd Recon Battalion. Another source reported that the 121st Mechanized Regiment had been established by early 2025.

A number of Russian sources noted the existence of the 10th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment within the 72nd Mechanized Division (HQ in Karelia) of the 44th Army Corps.

The 149th Mixed Aviation Division was reported to have been “recently” established in Petrozavodsk (Karelia) in April 2025.

On 7 May 2025, Alexandrit / Project 12700 class minesweeper Afanasy Ivannikov joined the Russian navy’s Baltic Fleet. The ship is stationed at the Baltiysk naval base in Kaliningrad Oblast.
