Intelligence Online reported on 9 October 2025 that “India‘s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has since mid 2025 made several informal visits to Afghanistan,” with India trying to find “common ground with the Taliban regime in order to counter Pakistani influence.”
Also on 9 October, the Taliban’s foreign minister arrived in India for a six-day visit “for talks aiming to foster economic ties with New Delhi.” The Indian foreign ministry stated that India looked forward “to engaging discussions with him on bilateral relations and regional issues,” while India’s foreign minister was expected to “discuss a range of political, economic and trade matters” with his Taliban colleague.
