Late on the night of 9 October 2025, Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Israel is deploying its forces along a line within the Gaza Strip that retains Israeli control over the 53 percent of the Strip’s territory, while waiting for an organized capitulation of Hamas under the conditions outlined in a plan presented by the United States’ President Trump and supported by a group of Muslim countries.
Control over the 53 percent of the Gaza Strip gives Israel a strong position to renew its offensive to eliminate the territorial control of Hamas if the latter refuses to finalize its capitulation and relinquish the territory peacefully. On 10 October, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu confirmed Israel’s intention to complete Hamas’s destruction militarily if that is the case.
