A ceasefire between Israel and Iran’s asset Hezbollah in Lebanon came into effect in the night of 16-17 April 2026.
During the latest round fighting, Israel widened its area of control in southern Lebanon near the Israeli-Lebanese border, which it intends to use as a buffer zone against Hezbollah.

The United States has been trying to prepare ground for the removal of Russia’s geopolitical influence in the southern and eastern Libya ruled by Khalifa Haftar.
If brought to fruition, the American efforts would result in some form of integration between the western Libya ruled by the Tripoli government and the Haftar-ruled eastern part of the country.
Americans are apparently trying to induce Haftar with potential large-scale investment in Libya, as well as “the carrot of United Nations exemptions to an international arms embargo on the two armies [Tripoli’s and Haftar’s] if they can cooperate and create a combined military command.”
