MENA Theater Update, 1 May 2026

On 26 April 2026, Axios reported that Israel deployed an Iron Dome air defense battery — with several dozen Israeli troops — to the United Arab Emirates early in the war with Iran. It was the first time Israel had sent the system to another country. The deployment followed a call between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, after Iran fired approximately 550 ballistic and cruise missiles and over 2,200 drones at the UAE — more than at any other country in the region.

The Iron Dome intercepted dozens of Iranian missiles. In addition, Israeli Air Force strikes on short-range missile positions in southern Iran provided additional protection to the UAE and other Gulf states.

Israel responded with a restart of systematic airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

The exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah has continued since then.
