MENA Theater Update, 8 May 2026

On 6 May 2026, the United States enforced its naval blockade against an Iranian-flagged oil tanker attempting to reach port, disabling it by firing rounds at it. The following day, on 7 May, three US Navy destroyers — the Truxton, Rafael Peralta, and Mason — transited out of the Strait of Hormuz, upon which Iran attacked them with multiple missiles, drones, and small boats. US Central Command responded with retaliatory strikes on Iranian military assets responsible, including missile and drone launch sites, command-and-control locations, and intelligence and surveillance nodes. Areas targeted by the US included Qeshm island and Bandar Abbas. Iranians failed to hit any of the US vessels.
