MENA Theater Update, 11 May 2026

The New York Times reported on 9 May 2026 that Russia was shipping drone components to Iran via the Caspian Sea, helping Tehran rebuild its drone arsenal after losing roughly 60 percent of it during recent fighting. Russia was also supplying goods that would ordinarily transit the Strait of Hormuz, now blockaded by the US Navy. Four Iranian ports along the Caspian were operating around the clock to bring in food supplies including wheat, corn, animal feed, and sunflower oil, with Iran actively rerouting essential food imports through this corridor to circumvent the blockade.
