On 7–8 June 2026, Israel and Iran exchanged direct strikes for the first time since the April ceasefire. After Israel struck a Hezbollah headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Iran launched a number of ballistic missiles at Israel, all intercepted by Israeli air defenses. Houthis in Yemen also launched a ballistic missile at Israel, which was intercepted.
Israel then struck military targets in central and western Iran, including air defense systems, missile launch sites, and the Karoun Petrochemical complex in the Mahshahr region. Israel subsequently sent dozens of additional warplanes in a large-scale strike on Iranian air defenses, with explosions reported in Tehran. Iran then attacked airbases in southern Israel, with no major injuries reported.
