On 17 June 2026, the United States and Iran signed an interim agreement, extending the ceasefire, and opening a 60-day window for negotiations on a final settlement covering Iran’s nuclear program. As part of the agreement, the United States lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports on 18 June, allowing oil tankers to resume free transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
From 20–22 June 2026, US and Iranian negotiators held talks at Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. On 22 June, the US Treasury Department issued a 60-day license permitting Iran to sell oil and petrochemical products in US dollars.
